Now is your chance to ring in the New Year SMOKE FREE!  If you're a Veteran who has been struggling with the addictive habit of smoking, now you can take advantage of the Tobacco Cessation Program that will be offered at the Fargo VA beginning in February.

This is an 8-week program designed to help you quit smoking.  Seats are limited so register today to reserve your spot!

The program will meet for one hour, every Friday morning (with the exception of one Monday morning meeting on March 5) begining February 3rd.

Sessions will consist of the following topics:

SESSION ONE: Thinking about Quitting.

You will begin the decision-making process by weighing the pros and cons of quitting, learn about coping skills and other information on medication to help you quit.

SESSION TWO: On the Road to Freedom.

Learn about self management skills and the general health benefits of quitting smoking.

SESSION THREE: Wanting to Quit.

Focus on motivation and conditioning, in addition you will learn to identify high-risk situations through relapse prevention.

SESSION FOUR: Quit Day.

Formal ceremony for quitting, you will make a personal and public commitment to quit smoking. Hear from ex-smokers who will relate their experiences and provide inspiration.

SESSION FIVE: Winning Strategies

Explore the transitional stage of becoming a nonsmoker and the recovery symptoms  you may experience.

SESSION SIX: The New You.

You will be launching your new lifestyle as a nonsmoker!  You will also be introduced to goal setting for weight management as an important technique for maintaining a smoke-free status.

SESSION SEVEN: Staying Off.

This session covers assertive communication and the importance of physical activity as a long-term maintenace technique for abstinence.

SESSION EIGHT: Celebration!

Reflection on the quitting experience of the last seven weeks.
