I CARE Story - Expanded Clinics
What Outreach Surgical Clinic appointments at the Bismarck CBOC means to our rural Veterans?
Danny is a Veteran from Lignite, ND, which is north of Minot. He was recently one of the first Veterans to be seen for his surgical clinic appointment at the Bismarck CBOC. The recent implementation of monthly Outreach Surgical Specialty face-to-face appointments has been well received by patients, especially Danny, who previously had to travel from his home to Fargo for these visits.
The Surgical Specialty Service line partnered with the Bismarck CBOC to offer monthly Wound Ostomy Care, Plastic Surgery and General Surgery appointments to Veterans in Western ND. Danny was very pleased that his waiting time to be seen was shorter within the VA system than the private sector. He also appreciated that the Specialty Services were brought closer to his home.
Danny stated he is “very satisfied with the care the VA provides him” and was even more satisfied due innovations such as bringing specialists closer to Veterans in rural areas. Danny complimented health care team members stating “Dr. Lomagistro is excellent and thorough. The Nurses and MSA’s are professional, compassionate and kind, both in Minot and Bismarck” and he appreciates the excellent health care he receives at the Fargo VA Health Care System.
