“I feel like I have my husband back”.

Those are the tearful words uttered by a very grateful wife, after hearing that the VA could help her husband. Mr. Dale Siemers was admitted to the VA with hallucinations and sleep deprivation, among other issues. Dr. Lala was his provider and was persistent in trying to understand why this patient was experiencing such symptoms.

Mr. Siemers randomly shared that he used to have CPAP and Dr. Lala took it from there. He contacted the respiratory therapist on duty and treatment options were discussed. The therapist set up a hospital CPAP machine and that night Mr. Siemers slept like a baby throughout the night with his wife, Teresa, in the room.

The next morning Mr. Siemers and his wife were so amazed at how wonderful he felt and how rested he looked.  The CPAP Coordinator made a special effort to get him set up with a new machine before discharge. His wife stated: “ I am so relieved. This place is so thorough and the level of caring is wonderful; you listen, REALLY listen. We wouldn’t have found that anywhere else”.

Mr. Siemers and his wife Teresa returned to the pulmonary clinic a few weeks later and the staff were greeted with big hugs. Teresa commented “What all of you at the VA did for Dale, literally changed him. He looks 10 years younger”. To that, Mr. Siemers smiled and laughed.
