Fargo VA names two award winners
The Fargo VA Health Care System has presented its 2016 Dr. Byron D. Danielson Clinician of the Year Award to Dr. Glenn Shamdas and the 2016 Mid-Level Provider of the Year to Physician Assistant Sharon Ries, March 31.
Shamdas is an Oncologist in the Primary Care and Specialty Medicine Service Line and Ries works in the Orthopedics Department, Surgery and Specialty Care Service Line.
The recipients of each award are selected based on their outstanding clinical dedication, strong commitment to excellence in patient care, compassionate attitude toward patients and families, focus on teamwork and regularly going above the call of duty to serve Veterans.
Shamdas completed a medical degree at the Malaga School of Medicine in Spain in 1980 and completed internal medicine residency at the University of North Dakota affiliated hospitals in Fargo from 1986 to 1989 and a Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the University of Arizona from 1989 to 1992. He first worked for the VA from 1992 to 1997 and again from 2003 to the present. He is also a traditional guardsman with the U.S. Air Force.
Ries graduated from the University of Washington Medicine Extension (MEDEX) Northwest Physician Assistant program and received a Bachelor of Clinical Health Science from the University of Washington in 1997. She has been working in orthopedics for the VA since 2005.
